HIPPOPOTAMUS

From this entry, I will reveal to all of you about this famous creature. Why makes them famous?

It is because there are the creatures that have killed humans in a huge number at today list. When we see this animal, we will be surprise to know this fact. It is because this animal not seems easy to run faster but they actually are the runner. Do you know what the animals are? It is a hippopotamus.

Hippos once had a broader distribution but now live in eastern central and southern sub-Saharan Africa, where their populations are in decline. Hippopotamus come from the Greek “hippo” which means river horse. They often give similarities between hippo and horse due to the hippopotamus ability to run faster. But to me, hippos are more related to pig rather than horse by their characteristics.

By looking at this picture, I still feel surprise how aggressive can hippos be. Because at the beginning, I thought Hippo was cute!

Hippos are aggressive animals.  With the long, razor-sharp incisors and tusk like canines, the hippo is well-armed and dangerous. Hippos are unpredictable. If they are encountered away from the safety of water, anything that gets between them and their refuge may be bitten or trampled. This makes why hippos killed humans in the highest numbers. Often humans like to be in the animals populations and hippopotamus is not a suitable population to practice the usual habits.

Furthermore, hippos also love to be in the water rather than the land. With the small eyes and nostrils set at the top of the head, it makes the adults can breathe longer in the water about 5 minutes.
