GOLDEN POISON DART FROG

Before I start with my next entry, I love to ask, does you or your relative or friends like to keep frog as a pet?

Or maybe you, your relative or friends will not touch or even want to see it?

Based on my own observation, most of the girls are not so friendly when meeting frogs while boys love to play with it by making fun to others. J But there also some girls will love play with frogs and some boys that don’t want to touch frog.

Whatever your type is, I still want to share with all of you about this unique from which known as Golden Poison Dart Frog. These frogs are 1.3-5.1 cm (0.5-2 in) long. Females are larger compare to males. They eat flies, ants, beetles, spiders, mites, caterpillars, and maggots. Tadpoles eat whatever is available such as algae and microscopic plants, carrion, and even smaller tadpoles.

The Golden Poison Dart Frog that has poison enough to kill 10 grows adult.

This creature lives within a tiny plot of rain forest on the Pacific coast of Colombia. And though the population in its small range is abundant, widespread decimation of the rain forest has landed this species on international endangered lists. The golden frogs have been in the endangered list due to the disappearing tropical rainforest. They live in only certain parts of tropical rainforests that are disappearing as deforestation and farm land development continues in various parts of the world. Thus, Indigenous Emberá people of Colombia have used its powerful venom for centuries to tip their blowgun darts when hunting, hence the species' name.

Does this creature harm people?

Although all poison dart frogs are venomous, only three have poison that is lethal to humans. The golden poison frog is one of these and the most deadly. Its poison is 20 times more toxic than that of other dart frogs. Like other poisonous animals, poison dart frogs do not have to bite or attack the predators. By touch and lick the predator, it has given away their poison. That’s why the hunter use this creature poison when go hunting because it can kill the prey.

A dart has been rolled up on the frog skin body to get the poison. This can stay last longer for a year to be use.

The poison that contain on this creature is called batrachotoxin. It causes paralysis and death when it enters the bloodstream, even in minuscule amounts. It is more powerful because it is enough to kill 10 grows men.

Do you know what make this animal more unique?

Actually they make their own poison by eating other poisoning creatures such as toxic ants, beetles and millipedes.  This is how they produced high toxic poison on their bodies.
